Hi. Joe Schmoe REALTOR here. Property Guys have been having a lot of fun with that one haven't they? According to their latest ad, REALTORs are "useless as a kickstand on a submarine". Clever. The one thing I don't understand is why Property Guys ads always focus on making fun of the competition, rather than focusing on what they can do for their customers. I mean, bashing the competition as a means of marketing yourself is sooo 60's. Political parties are about the only ones left still doing that sort of advertising.
So, why doesn't Property Guys focus on what they do for their customers? We all know they aren't a real estate company, they operate a marketing website for people who want to sell their own homes. A choice that some people like to exercise which is definately their right to do. We all operate in a free market economy.
I think I may have found the answer in the Globe and Mail last week. In one article it is mentioned that organized real estate sold 90% of the homes in Canada in 2009 while the rest were sold privately in one way or another. They same article mentioned that Property Guys were responsible for the sale of approximately 4000 homes in Canada in 2009. Now REALTORs sold some of those houses. Some of them in Greater Moncton were sold by REALTORS so I assume this is the same in other areas. However, giving them credit for the full 4000 sales, that gives them about 2% of the market share after 12 years in the business.
Maybe that's why they spend so much time trying to discredit Professions REALTORs. After all, we just sell homes and our Code of Business Ethics doesn't allow us to write cute ads bashing the competition.
