Does seeing a "Sold over asking" sign on a house actually mean anything?

Yes, I did have these signs in my car at one time but have since thrown them away. After years of seeing them posted on some homes that (in my opinion) weren't even sold at market value...they only create a false sense of value for the neighbours around it. A day in the life of trying to avoid bidding wars

Over the last few years, I have tried to understand why it was that buyers would be jumping over other buyers to buy spaces in certain areas.
