I read a very interesting article from a speaker (see end of article) and wanted to share it with you. I made the additions/changes in red for us Canadians. I hope you enjoy it too.
It is said that the economy is in a desperate state. It is said that we are suffering, lonely and even desperate. It is said that we are in it for ourselves and care little for our neighbor. It is said, it is said, it is said. It is said that we are resilient, creative, resourceful people. It is said that we are the richest nation in the world. It is said that America's (Canada's)entrepreneur is the heart of our strength. It is said, it is said, it is said.
So who is saying this or that? Who exactly is the person assigned to the article or broadcast that says what it says? Are they in a good mood when they write about the downfall of America's (Canada's) industry? Maybe they had a fight with their brother or friend at lunch, felt unheard and it is in preparing their broadcast that they will state their case subconsciously? Maybe they awoke realizing the blessing of life and the amazing abundance we have even as unemployed American's? (Canadians) Who exactly is it that said what it is that you decided to believe? Who edited it? If it wasn't me then why would I own it?
When we make our choices, cement our beliefs, or defend our opinion, we are producing "proof" - not from what we know - but from what we are told and want to agree with. We actually allow complete strangers to crawl inside our brain and tell us what is true. We are willing to argue about it and defend it because that person is on TV, wrote a book, has a degree, looks nice. If we don't watch the news we are said to be out of touch. Out of touch with what?
Here is my thought: For the next 2 months we can stop listening to the media - print, TV, radio etc. - Yep, STOP! Then we take that same amount of time and we do one of the most daring, most independent thinking, most obvious things all freedom loving people know to do - we create stable communities. We put our thoughts into creating strong parent/youth communities in our high schools. We put our hearts into creating supportive, inspiring communities in our churches. We put our freedom into creating the world we desire... especially if we find ourselves unemployed.
Being unemployed is the BEST time to do this. You have the time. It is in the gift of being unemployed or lacking in work time that the Universe is saying, "Give here." And in placing this time in our world, we cure the disease that is plaguing our world and causing us to cease independent thought. We cure loneliness. The independent mind comes alive and our communities become stable.
Yes, what I am proposing is daring. I don't know anything more daring in this world than to dedicate ourselves to stabilizing our communities and curing loneliness. It is said that we need to bail the big guys out. It is said we need to save our health care situation. It is said we are broken. I am saying all we have to do is give who we are to a place where we can create community and although we may not be the voice on TV, we will be the true voice of what I was raised to call ‘The American (Human) Spirit'.
