Building Permits in Regina set all time record in 2011

As reported in the Leader Post, building permits have been setting records for about the past 10 years. 2011 is the first time to hit the $500-million mark in the city's 108 year old history.

Some of the major construction projects include:

Hill Centre Tower III, a new 20 storey office tower downtown. This rendering shows the transformation of Regina's skyline.

A luxury condominium project is underway near downtown. A 10-storey building with 71 units on the southwest corner of Broad Street and 15th Avenue.

       Arcola Community School.   This "green" school will have a green roof with a weather station, a vegetable and herb garden for students and a layout that maximizes natural light. This school is expected to open for the 2011-12 school year, and is designed to accommodate 400 students.

     Douglas Park School (model animation). This school is also expected to open for the 2011-12 school year.

Regina Home Builders had a busy October

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp (CMHC) reported that there were 274 housing units started in October, almost triple from October 2010, this brings the total starts year-to-date to more than 1,400 making this the best year for starts in a decade.

In Saskatchewan, home builders will have over 4,000 single-detached homes and 2,350 multi-family unit starts this year. In 2012, it is expected that a strengthening economy due to job growth, rising incomes, and sustained in-migration will maintain housing demand and result in similar activity.

September real estate market sets new highs in Regina

In the Regina area, home sales were as hot as the weather in September with new highs recorded for residential property sales. The number of sales in September 2011 was up 21% from the same time a year ago.

September statistics for the city of Regina, as reported by the Association of Regina REALTORS® Inc.:

· Number of sales in the city - 317

· Average Sale Price - $280,697

· Number of new listings - 560

Looking forward, all economic and job growth fundamentals point to a continued strong and steady housing market. Regina is also on the verge of setting another record for residential construction. Through the first nine months of 2011, homebuilders have started work on 540 single family dwellings.
