Get ready for the eastern leg of the Eglinton LRT construction

The Eglinton LRT is coming...

Last week the intersection at Eglinton and Brentcliffe was completely closed beginning at rush hour for 5 hours due to a motor vehicle incident and subsequent investigation. This is one of the busiest intersections in Toronto, being crossed by some 4,000 vehicles/hour. The resulting traffic chaos was an eye-opener, and may be a portent of what the area will experience for the next few years.

Once the LRT excavation begins, the tunnel launch site will be located between Brentcliffe Rd and Leslie St, to accommodate the proposed Leslie LRT stop which will now be above ground (an earlier proposal to eliminate the Leslie stop was rejected by the nearby communities). Major traffic disruptions are expected.

Construction is expected to begin in 2014. If you usually use Eglinton Ave East, plan ahead for alternate routes, and pay special attention to all vehicles, especially motorcycles and bicycles now that winter is over.
