Well its that time of year again, with summer on its way and cottaging in the Kawartha's is starting to become a topic on everyone's mind. This year, thousands of people will get in their cars and drive north for the weekend, looking to escape the confine's of the city and take in the solitude of the Kawartha's to relax and make thier days off thier own.
As people often think of sitting on a dock and watching the waves roll in, the demand for cottages is often high making it tough to afford for some individuals. However, there is an affordable option in the Kawartha's as many waterfront communities exist on the shores of Pigeon Lake and Sturgeon Lake. These communities are often a gathering of a hundred or more homes and are very affordable for the person with an average income. Water use is often governed by a community association, that keep the water access (docking, park, beaches) in good repair for an exceptionally low price. Alot of association fee's run less then 100 dollars anually.
An example of an excellent waterfront community would be Lakeview Estates located on the East Side of Pigeon Lake Rd, shoring pigeon lake. Annual Fee's are 60 dollars per year and use of the association beach, private park, not to mention the chance to put your own dock in. Other affordable examples are but not limited too, the waterfront communities of Southview Estates (Sturgeon Lake), Thurstonia, (Sturgeon Lake) and the Adult community of Victoria Place (Pigeon Lake).
In the end, dont be scared of cottage pricing as there are very affordable options that make cottaging an option for everyone.
