I would like to take a few moments to tell you about my friends Para and Neela at Econo Gas and Convenience Store on the corner of Lindsay St. South and Durham St. in Lindsay. Para and Neela were both born in Sri Lanka and immigrated to Canada in 1985 and 1986 respectively. Although they were from the same country originally, they were from different parts of the country completely and did not know each other at all. Neela describes the two regions that they were from originally as "as different as Ontario and Quebec".

They first met in Scarborough,ON, just east of the former City of Toronto, and were married. One day in the spring of the year 2000 Para, Neela, and their three children Kharthik, Aananth, and Prasitha were driving through the central Ontario countryside dreaming of setting some roots just outside the GTA. When they reached the Lindsay area they were impressed by the community and were giving it their consideration. As the traveling down Lindsay St. South they saw a gas station for sale in a perfect location. They put an offer in on it that day!

Para and Neela's business philosophy is hard work, dedication, and exceptional customer service is an everyday event. They pride themselves on their commitment to family values and strong customer relationships. Neela says that what she loves about Lindsay and the Kawartha Lakes is the personal relationships she has with the community members. " The principal and teachers from my kids school buy gas here too" she said.
