I couldn't have been more thrilled than when my friend, Jason Challenger, asked me to sing the Canadian National Anthem at the annual Lindsay Unites Alumni Hockey Game.
To sing O Canada is just about the biggest honour I can imagine being able to contribute and the fact that I am doing so prior to an event that I believe so strongly in, is a thrill beyond words.
(In case you were unaware... prior to becoming a Realtor and partnering with my fella, John Beukeboom, I taught voice, played guitar, wrote songs, performed and recorded an album, First Last Kiss.
Here's the iTunes link to my album: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/artist/dee-girdler/id457936861 ...but that's a story for another day!)
Five years ago, a group of friends began a charity and event called Lindsay Unites and among these fine philanthropists are people I am very proud to call my friends.

Lindsay Unites works in conjunction with the JumpStart program to get children, whose families might not otherwise be able to afford for them to participate in sports or extracurricular activities, opportunities to play. Which is precisely what children in this country should be doing. Playing, laughing, without a care in the world. It's what every parent wants for their children. Those of us who have ever struggled at times can deal with it as adults, but when it affects our child's happiness it is comforting to know there is a community of care and support, that proverbial village there with the resources and support at the ready to help raise that child. Money raised in this event and all Lindsay Unites events and activites goes directly to the JumpStart Program and directly supports the sporting and extra curricular activities of children in OUR COMMUNITY.
It's going to be extra special this year for John and I. Beuk will drop the puck again with me singing O Canada, it will be a family affair to support this wonderful event.
John dropping the puck last year at Lindsay Unites.
Please join us on December 28th at the Lindsay Rec Complex for three games during the day beginning at 2pm and ending at 8pm. John will be dropping the puck for the 4pm game and I will be singing the Canadian National Anthem at that game. There are activities all day, so I really recommend visiting the Lindsay Unites website or Facebook page for updates.
For more information on the Lindsay Unites charity, the schedule and the good work they do in our community, and how you can get involved, please visit their website at www.lindsayunites.ca

Please join Beuk and I for this great event, throw your support behind it and please come and say Hi! If you are not in the area, contact JumpStart and get involved in your area. Giving back to the children in your community is one of the most satisfying feelings and a great gift to give at this time of year.
