Rimbey: A Town on the Move
Nestled among lakes and rivers and prime agricultural land, the growing little town of Rimbey has a long history in Central Alberta. With a population of around 2,500 people and many local amenities, Rimbey is a town on the move, and it’s easy to see why. Read on to find out why you might like to call Rimbey home too.
Town pride and community spirit are both alive and well in Rimbey. The Rimbey recreation centre is a hub of activity for people who like to go swimming, play hockey, or hit the racquetball courts. Local community groups also keep the community vibrant, by coordinating events and leading projects. Rimbey’s cornerstone event – the Rimbey Rodeo – brings people from all over Alberta to the town every June, and then in August, the town plays host to a Horticultural Show. Antique auto lovers will enjoy the Smithson International Truck Museum, while outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy a short drive to four major area lakes, including both Gull Lake and Sylvan Lake.
Rimbey residents are fortunate to have a variety of shops and eateries that are usually found in larger centres. For other shopping needs, Red Deer, Edmonton, and Ponoka are short drives away, offering Rimbey shoppers many options to suit their needs.
Public school students in Rimbey can complete their education from kindergarten to grade 12 close to home. In addition, a private Christian school offers an alternative to the public schools in town, as do schools in the nearby communities of Bentley and Ponoka.
Agriculture has a strong connection to the Rimbey area, but Rimbey also has some oilfield and manufacturing industry employers as well. And because it’s only around a 20-minute drive to Ponoka and a 45-minute drive to Red Deer, Rimbey is the perfect place from which to commute for those who prefer to live a little off the beaten track.
As a predominately Christian town, Rimbey has a welcoming community of religious facilities, with places of worship for many different faiths. Worshippers will find Alliance, Catholic, United, Anglican, and Seventh Day Adventists churches right in Rimbey.
Truly, Rimbey is a town on the move – but don’t take our word for it. Come for a visit and discover for yourself why Rimbey is the perfect place to live, work, and play.
