On September 15,2010 the Direction de l’évaluation foncière de la Ville de Montréal tabled the new 2011 assessment rolls of the 16 municipalities of the Montreal urban agglomeration. They will come into force on January 1st, 2011 for fiscal years 2011, 2012 and 2013.
The following is an excerpt from the Ville de Montréal website:
"Snow removal, sports and recreation, garbage removal, police services, public transit, water purification; these services are all of direct benefit to you. Of course, you also contribute, through your taxes, to the cost of providing these public services. The property tax is used to maintain and improve the quality of life in your community. It is determined on the basis of the assessment of a group of properties, including yours. The value of each property is entered on the assessment roll. The most recent assessment rolls are the 2011 rolls deposited on September 15, 2010, coming into force on January 1, 2011, for the fiscal years 2011-2012-2013.
It should be noted that, whatever the change in value of a property when filing a new roll, it is impossible to determine the amount of taxes to pay for the next fiscal year from this roll. We have to wait until the adoption of the municipal budget in December, to know the fiscal measures and the tax rates that will be applied to the new assessments."
