Buying your first home is a mix of emotions and can be a daunting process. The house closing may take somewhere around two to three weeks after all the legal paperwork and the initial deposit payments are made. The next steps that follow are packing and moving. However timing is solely the crucial key to keep things organised at all times along with some other factors which are discussed below that can make your moving easy and relaxing;
1. Change the locks. You really don’t know who else has keys to your home, so change the locks. This will help to enhance the security of your home.
2. Leaks. Your home inspector should do this for you before closing, but it never hurts to double-check. I didn’t have any leaks to fix, but when checking my kitchen sink, I did discover the sink sprayer was broken. Keep an eye on the dripping faucets, water heater these are the most common problem areas.
3. Cleaning. There can never be enough done when it comes to cleaning. So start from eliminating the dust and then all you have to do is manage the clutter with your daily chores and then keep things organised on a weekly basis.
4. Power Connection. Introduce yourself to your circuit breaker box and main water valve. This not only saves the pain of calling the past owner; but once you are familiar to all the power controls you can label them and if there is a minor mishap like a trip or fuse failure you can fix it yourself.
These above simple tips will not only help you to settle in your new home with peace but willl help you instantly build a sense of personal space.
