Village of Ayr, located in the township of North Dumfries is part of Region of Waterloo. It is within a short commuting distance from the tri-cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge, Paris as well as Guelph.
Ayr is a thriving, self contained, family friendly town with numerous businesses that provide all amenities and make one feel as though they are living in a big town with all the perks of a small, close knit community.
The small town mentality helps give a sense of old world charm. There is always a neighbour giving a hand and a feeling that there is a village helping you, raise your child. Where you are on first name basis with the health care provider, pharmacist and librarian!
In 2011 the township, with the help of citizens, as well as provincial and federal governments, built a new community complex. It has a hockey rink that seats 1000 spectators! It also includes a walking track, a community health center, a senior center, a youth center, a community hall, 3 soccer fields (1 of which is lit and irrigated!), a splash pad and playground.
Starting in 2001 Ayr has hosted the annual Fresh Ayr Festival. This festival is a community sponsored celebration held on the third Sunday of each June with focus on embracing the diversity of the village and showcasing local talent and art.To get a sense of the community, join Ayr in its Fresh Ayr Festival (freshayrfestival.com) this year on June 15th.
