On The Outside Looking In

According to the National Association of Realtors more than 63% of buyers will make a decision whether to see your home if they like the way it looks from the outside.  First impressions are everything. If you are not attracting potential buyers to your home, what is that you need to do to make the most of your home’s exterior? Why is that important?  Since more than 88% of home purchases start with an on line search, an attractive façade will bring more buyers to your front door.

How to Improve Your Curb Appeal

  • Start with making the most of your front door itself since it is one of the first places people look. Consider adding a rich contrasting colour to compliment your home’s exterior landscaping and brick colour.  Black, brown and grey are some of the most popular colour choices.
  • Position a few potted plants close to the door dressed in the latest seasonal colours. Match the colour of the flowers in the pots by filling the space in your yard with a few flowers to match.
  • Consider adding a fresh coat of paint to the outside of your home and paint the trim to pump up your curb appeal. Clean up all the clutter from the front yard by placing all of the hockey sticks, bikes, skateboards and more in a safe place out of sight to the potential buyers.
  • Add new numbers, upgrade exterior lights and or add new bulbs. Give your entire façade a power wash including the driveway and sidewalks.  Look up all the way up to the roofline. Does your roof need repairs?  Is this in the budget prior to putting your home up for sale?

Find Inspiration

Consider hiring a professional home stager. For inspiration, search for exterior design ideas in design-oriented magazines, books, and websites.

Impressing potential buyers with making the most of the exterior of your home so you can actually show-off what’s on the inside will definitely attract more buyers to home.
