I’m excited about a new listing I signed up recently, nestled in the woods of eastern Queens Co. on beautiful Prince Edward Island, this little gem is of straw bale construction and includes 2 Solar Panels on the main cottage, a passive solar Guest Cottage and a Windmill to generate electricity. This little gem is truly off-the-grid.
Straw Bale construction has many advantages; Bales are readily available and do double duty as insulation and structural element. Straw will provide excellent insulation value, usually between R35 and R50 as well as reducing the over all cost of construction. Straw Bale homes are easy to stack build and require very little specialized knowledge of carpentry (although a good knowledge of basic carpentry skills is never wasted). Straw Bales are hypoallergenic, by using Clay over straw construction you are able to avoid toxic paints and industrial insulations that may set off your environmental sensitivities.
The little cottage in the woods can be seen at my website or can be viewed personally by calling me at 902 393 5776. If you are interested in living as ecologically sound life this property is an excellent place to start.
