Interesting Real Facts About PEI #1

Its surprising to think that it was only 250 years ago that Prince Edward Island was properly mapped and surveyed; but 1764 Samuel Holland, the first Surveyor-General of British North America was ordered by the Crown to survey the recently acquired St. John's Island soon to become Prince Edward Island.

Holland and his crew completed the job in a year and divided the Island into 67 lots of about 20,000 acres each and created a detailed map and survey to reflect the boundaries of the lots.  This was to affect political and cultural development of the Island and impacts real estate deals in in PEI to the current day.

2015 is the 250th Anniversary of Holland's survey and his original map will come to the Island for the first time, on loan from Great Britain and on display in Charlottetown.
