Lets Talk Curb Appeal..

Let's talk Curb Appeal....

We live in world where first impressions are of great importance. Executed correctly, a first impression can be a powerful tool in selling your home. So, where does this first impression begin you ask? It’s all about curb appeal. Think about it this way, when you go for a job interview, you dress to impress in order to stand out and create that lasting impression. Similarly, when selling your home, you want to capture the buyers’ interest the moment they lay eyes on your property. So, naturally it begins with excellent curb appeal.

Here are five easy steps to boost your curb appeal without breaking the bank.

1) Main Entrance

The front door is the focal point of any residence. It is the passage way to that dream home. Therefore, it is wise to ensure that your front door is well kept and maintained. A fresh coat of paint will do wonders to perk up its appearance. Or if you really want to impress, there are a vast amount of vendors that provide custom doors at discounted prices. Installing a custom door will definitely dazzle buyers and generate interest. Additionally, the garage door should be kept in good condition. A simple layer of paint will do the trick and keep it looking neat.

2) Fixtures and Hardware

Get rid of brassy, rusted and out-dated hardware and replace them with new modern features. Think about updating those house numbers or door knobs to create a fresher look. Try adding some contemporary overhead light fixtures to really brighten up your entrance.

3) Décor/Outdoor Staging

Just as you would stage the interior of your home to showcase its’ potential to buyers, it is as equally important to stage outdoors as well to display its usefulness. Consider adding outdoor furniture to really spruce up the porch. Simple items such as chairs, a small table and a door mat provide both an inviting feel as well as mimicking extra square footage to the home. Hanging baskets, flower boxes and potted plants all add to the vibe of a well-kept home and draws in attention.

4) DIY Landscaping

When approaching a home, what can be more unappealing than an untamed lawn with weeds sprouting everywhere. Avoid being that home that is overpowered by trees and bushes attributing to a dark, uninviting and dingy atmosphere. Be smart with your landscaping in order to enhance the look of your home, instead of engulfing it with plants. Consider small beds of colorful flowers and shrubs lining the walkway and leading the eyes to that welcoming front door. Furthermore, make the effort of maintaining a healthy green lawn and be sure to regularly tend to the upkeep of your garden.

5) Outdoor Lighting

Another tactic of attracting the eyes to the front door is landscape lighting. Try installing low voltage or solar powered path lights to illuminate the walkway and lead you right up to the main entrance. This also attributes to a warm and inviting ambiance.

It may seem like common sense, but curb appeal can make or break a sale. You want to instantly attract and captivate buyers from the second they lay eyes on your home. The outside of your home is a reflection of the inside. Similar to that job interview, the manner in which you present yourself will be how people will view you. Make it count; you won’t get a second chance to make a first impression.
