Nova Scotia & Cape Breton 2nd Quarter Snap Shot
July 21, 2011 – Nova Scotia: The number of single-family homes listed for sale in Nova Scotia increased in the second quarter of 2011 as compared to last year. Statistics released today by the Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS® (NSAR) revealed that the number of homes listed on its Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) System from April to June was up in all seven regions, for a provincial increase of 7.8 per cent.
Currently, homebuyers have more choices in which homes they view or purchase.
The average sale price of homes sold through NSAR’s MLS® System rose 2.5 per cent. While sales in most regions increased, decreases in Cape Breton, Halifax-Dartmouth and the Highland Region pushed the number of sales down provincially by 0.7 per cent.
Sales in the Cape Breton for this period were down by 3% while Listings were up 18%. The average price reported was $123,926. Despite a 2.5% increase over the same period last year, Cape Breton still remains the most affordable housing market in Nova Scotia. The Provincial average was $216,556.
