Looking for a perfect home can be an emotional roller-coaster, but a new national study suggests finding the right property often comes down to love at first sight. The study showed that 80% of prospective homebuyers know whether a house is for them the moment they cross the threshold. The poll also found Canadians spend an average of five months house hunting and visit roughly 10 properties in the process. One-third of current homeowners said they felt rushed into a purchase and their biggest concern was that they would find something seriously wrong with the house after the deal finalized.
- 44% said they bought their home because they felt it was a good investment
- 37% said they were motivated to buy because they felt the time was right to get into the market
- 23% bought because they want to move to a new neighbourhood
- 18% bought because their family was expanding
We realize that first-time homebuyers are likely to feel more stressed and anxious. It’s important to take a practical approach when house hunting and have a clear idea of where you stand financially to ensure you make a responsible home buying decision.
