Summer Camp The YMCA Way

The YMCA builds strong kids through value-based programming that helps them grow into healthy, responsible and caring adults. Our summer camps provide:

  • a wide variety of age appropriate activities
  • fun and adventure based programming
  • the opportunity to develop new skills
  • activities that enhance personal growth and build confidence
  • a safe environment for children to make new friends

Ratios

Children up to the age of 11 years old are placed in groups which have a maximum of 10 participants, and are grouped by age proximity.

Our older participants are placed in groups which have a maximum of 12 participants. Participants in our LIT and CIT programs are placed in groups of 15.

Transportation

Bus stops are conveniently located throughout Oakville. Buses are supervised by trained staff, who start and end each day with fun activities. Children must get on and off the bus at the same location. Busing is included in the cost of the camp program. There is no busing available to the Peter Gilgan family YMCA (i.e., Challengers, Aquatics, Sports, Specialty and YMCA LIT campers must be dropped off and picked up directly at the YMCA on 410 Rebecca Street.)

Click here for more information about busing and bus stop locations.

Transfer Policy

Participants who are already registered for camp may transfer to a different camp/week based on availability. Requests must be made by Tuesday afternoon the week prior to camp. Please note that there may be a difference in cost between the two camps.

Our Camp Staff

Each year we get hundreds of staff applications for our YMCA summer camp program, and each year we choose only the best. Our camp team is selected based on their maturity, experience working with children and ability to role model YMCA values.

Our staff prepare for camp by:

-providing the YMCA with a current police reference check
-completing their First Aid and CPR certification
-attending a full week of pre-camp training that is focused on working with children, creating positive group experiences, programming and relationship building
Extended Hours

For your convenience, extended hours are offered at some locations from 7:00 am-9:00 am and again in the afternoon from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm. These programs are offered at an additional cost of $42.50/week per child for each before and after camp care.

Cancellation Policy

Participants may be withdrawn at any time. The $50/session deposit is non-refundable. The balance of fees will be refunded with written notification of withdrawal two weeks prior to the first day of the camp session. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons, for which a doctor’s note is required. Refunds will not be given if a camper is sent home for misconduct.
