During the month of October 2012 there were 273 residential housing starts (101 single-detached and 172 multi-family units) which is on par with the 274 starts in October 2011.
As published in the Leader Post, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. (CMHC) reported that in the first 10 months of 2012, total housing starts in Regina are up 76% compared to the same time last year.
Residential starts in the first 10 months of 2012 compared to the first 10 months of 2011:
- Total starts: 2,493 units in 2012 - 1,414 in 2011
- Single detached units: 1,134 units in 2012 - 782 in 2011
- Multi-family units: 1,359 units in 2012 - 632 in 2011
In Saskatchewan, urban housing starts are up by 33.4% in the first 10 months of 2012 compared to the same period in 2011. This is the highest percentage increase in Canada. Across the province, single-detached units increased by 29.7% while multi-family starts jumped by 37.4%.
