How To Make Your House Appealing To Buyers
The best way to make your house appealing is to make it feel like home to prospective buyers. Here are some tips to prepare your home for a showing:
- Get rid of clutter. Closets that are full-to-bursting suggest inadequate storage space.
- Spruce up the outside to make it look inviting. Check the front door and make sure it doesn't squeak. Fix loose railings. Hose down the siding or brickwork.
- Look in places you don't normally notice. Are there any cobwebs in the corners? Are there fingerprints on the fridge, stove, microwave, or cupboard doors?
- Sprinkling a little cinnamon on a plate in a warm oven can fill the house with a soothing aroma. Even better baking cookies or bread before the open house imparts a wonderful mood. Too busy to bake? Try packaged cookie or bread dough.
- Lighting is another aspect of your home that's easy to overlook. Replace bulbs and clean fixtures. If your open house is in the daylight, open all the draperies and curtains. If you're preparing for an evening inspection, make sure that all the lights are on. A few candles can add to a homey atmosphere.
- Put on some soft, inviting background music to greet prospective buyers.
- Arrange to be out of the house while it is being shown. Prospective buyers may feel that they're "snooping" in your home.
