Personal Background

 

I was born and raised in Portage La Prairie, my parents Roy and Colleen are still there and I enjoy going back as much as I can to see old friends and see how much the town has changed and grown.  I was also involved in competitive sports, especially hockey.  When I was 16 years old, I moved to Kindersley Saskatchewan to play junior hockey for the Klippers in the SJHL.  Being in Kindersley was a great eye opening experience for me, being away from my parents and on my own made me grow up and mature in a hurry.  I loved my two years in Kindersley, made great relationships and lifelong friends.  

After two seasons playing in Kindersley I was fortunate enough to receive a full 4 year athletic scholarship to RPI in Troy, NY.  Playing divison 1 hockey in the NCAA was an unbelievable life changing experience.  The life of a student/athlete is second to none, go to school during the day and play hockey in the evening, what more could a guy want.  Playing hockey in New York took me all over the country and really made me appreciate what a great life we have living in a smaller city here in Brandon.  You can get anywhere in Brandon in less than 10 minutes where as living in a huge city it could take hours to get anywhere.

When my hockey playing days were over, I moved back to Manitoba and met my Wife Jennifer, we moved to Calgary for 3 years to grow together and get on our feet.  We decided it was time to move home in 2007 and our first son Brady was born on March 14, 2008.  We were blessed again on Nov 24 2009 to welcome our second boy, Ashton to our family.

Jenn and I look forward to raising our family here in Brandon and spending the summer at our family cabin at Clear Lake.

Community Involvement

Being an active part of the community is something that is very important to me.  Growing up in a small town I saw firsthand the importance of volunteers for a successful event and season.  For three season, 2009-2012, I was the Assistant Coach for the Vincent Massey Vikings high school hockey team, this was my first season coaching and Wow what a great experience watching these kids grow not only as hockey players but also as Men.  I was also involved in the Mastercard Memorial Cup being hosted here in Brandon in 2010.  Now my focus has shifted back to my family as I am coaching my oldest son Brady as he joing the TimBits hockey program and starts his journey into hockey.

I look forward to helping my community succeed in the future and put our best foot forward for the world to see.

Education

I have my Bachelor of Science in Management with a concentration in Marketing and a minor in Sports Psychology.  I attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy NY and was a 3 years member of the Deans List for academic achievement.
