Phony lottery winnings letter is an attempt to defraud, police say

If you live in Windsor’s east end and you’ve received a letter informing you that you’ve won $2.5 million and a 2013 Mercedes Benz, the letter is phoney and you’ve been targeted by fraudsters, Windsor police say.

Senior Const. Michael Akpata said the financial crimes branch has been receiving a large number of complaints from people who have received letters or phone calls from Global Lottery and Winners International. Phone calls to Windsor residents came from the area code 876, which is in Jamaica.......
