What is a Downtown Oakville BIA?
Simply put, a Business Improvement Area (BIA) is an association of commercial/industrial property owners and tenants within a specified district who join together with official approval of the City in a self-help program aimed at stimulating business.
By creating a strong and distinct image for a neighborhood shopping area and marketing it effectively, BIAs can better compete in an age of shopping malls and big-box retailing.
Downtown Oakville is a dynamic shopping and cultural district. It is recognized for it's outstanding retail mix, professional services and exceptional dining. It is rich in history and heritage.
The Downtown Oakville BIA encompasses six city blocks and is the home to over 400 Members.
Downtown Oakville Business Improvement Area (BIA) is responsible for marketing this historic business district.
The Board Of Directors of the Downtown Oakville BIA are elected Members of the Downtown Business Community. They are responsible for creating the annual Business Plan to drive traffic to the area.
Funds are collected from each Business Member as a percentage of the taxed assessed value of their facility. The Town Council does not contribute to this budget, directly.
The Town Council acts as the "collection agency" and provides guidance and ensures good Governance for this not for Profit Association.
Currently the BIA has several committees including (HTML link to section on contact us page with descriptions of committees) EMS, Marketing, Beautification, Fashion, Jazz, Events and Sponsorship. Volunteers of the Downtown Oakville BIA staff these committees.
We are always in search of new sponsorship opportunities that benefit all parties and allow everyone to continue to benefit from the events, culture and lifestyle of Downtown Oakville.
