I don't know about ya'll but when the weekend rolls around I am ready for some F-U-N!!!! There is no shortage of fun things to do around Halton this weekend that's for sure. So pack up the kids and the sunscreen and get out there and enjoy your weekends people!!
If you're in Milton and you want to stay local you can enjoy the 38th Annual Strawberry Fair held at the Milton Fairgrounds on Saturday from 9-5. If you aren't close enough to walk there will be plenty of free parking available. If strawberries are your "thang" this is a definite Do Not Miss event. You can gorge yourself on strawberry shortcake, strawberry ice cream, strawberry slushies......you see where I'm going with this. Personally I am not a berry fan so I will be making an appearance for the bacon on a bun :) There will be some fire trucks on hand, always a popular attraction with the kiddies. Games and prizes a plenty will also keep the kids happy while Mom and Dad can enjoy a feast for the eyes at the flower show put on by the Milton & District Horticultural Society. Here's a word of warning from me to you based on personal experience....send the kids into the bouncy castles BEFORE they stuff themselves full of strawberries!
If Campbellville is in your sights for Saturday you can join in the fun at the 8th Annual Celebrate Campbellville Street Festival. Get there early and enjoy a pancake breakfast from 8-10. Now, I'm a fan of Campbellville in part because of the pretty little park right there in the center of town so if I were you I would hit the pancake breakfast and then mosey on over to the park to rest up for a bit before heading back across the street at lunch time to visit no less than three of the food trucks they will have. In between stops at the food trucks you can do some shopping at the vendor market and support some of our local artisans. Of course, they haven't forgotten about the kids so there will also be face painting, a birds of prey show put on by Mountsberg and loads of activities to put smiles on their faces. If you hang around long enough you can drool over the gorgeous vintage cars on display at the Vintage Car Show from 5-8. If that isn't enough excitement for you there will also be live music from noon right on through until 10pm.
Maybe Burlington is a little closer to home for you. If that's the case then be sure to head over to Palladium Park from 1-4 to partake in the Love My Hood Ward 6 Street Festival. It's a new take on what was formerly known as the Car Free Street Festival. Pedestrian friendly, this even is always a family favorite. With plenty of free food on offer, live music to tap your toes to, and of course plenty of fun activities for the kids, this one is sure to be a hit. I hear there are even going to be pony rides!!! As a horse owner I fell like Henry would feel I've cheated on him if I show up at the barn smelling like a pony, but for all you non-horse-owners the ponies will be there and happy to give you a ride. And hey, if I sneak home and shower before hitting the barn I may be able to hop on a pony myself......I wonder if they have a weight limit? After all, I will be sampling A LOT of the food!
Now this is a big one, and I'm not going to lie, this is truly where I will be this weekend. It's time for the annual Oakville Ribfest. The best news is that it is an all weekend long event so you can enjoy three times the ribs if you go every day. That's right....THREE TIMES THE RIBS!!! The list of food vendors here is long, and quite frankly made my mouth water just reading it. I plan to start with a bloomin onion and Tiny Tom donuts, moving along to ribs, which of course I will sample from no less than three different vendors in the spirit of fairness, followed by some Tiny Tom donuts. Of course no meal is complete without dessert so beaver tails are a must. Followed by some Tiny Tom donuts. Ribfest isn't ONLY about the ribs however, there will be loads of live music on stage. Everything from a U2 cover band, to classic rock and jazz. As a lover of not only food, but shopping as well, I was thrilled to see that there is also a long list of vendors there. This means that I can burn off some of those donuts after lunch while shopping.....so that I can go back for more....obviously!!!
Now that you know what fun things there are to do around Halton this weekend I hope to see some of you out at these amazing events. If you still haven't met me at one of our Conservation Parks, or seen me riding my fabulous bike around town, look for me at the Oakville Ribfest on Saturday. I'll be easily recognizable as the woman covered in that white powder from the Tiny Tom donuts :)
