Many sellers feel that December is not a good time to list their homes. On the contrary, it might not be a bad idea because many people are waiting for the spring to sell their homes, housing inventories are low and there is less competition for your home. Also, buyers looking to buy in December are serious and tend to buy quicker. Remember it takes only one buyer to love and buy your home.
Additionally, buyers might have more time to look for houses especially those sitting at home, on their computers and browsing potential homes. Moreover, sellers listing during the winter season are motivated and want to sell their homes; therefore, buyers can also take advantage of this time for good deals.
When listing in the colder months, make sure your furnace is working at optimal level, inspect the roof, clean the gutters, clean air filters and weather-strip the windows. Make all the necessary repairs and remember, winter buyers will be thinking of heating costs. Brighten your home to curb the winter blues by staying lighter and neutral in your colour palette to of-set the poor natural light.
Lastly, make sure that you price your home right since there are fewer buyers and you do not want to lose the right one and your home stays longer in the market; becoming stale in comparison to newer listings that will come up in the spring. Just because it is winter does not mean that serious buyer will not appreciate what your home has to offer.
