April Sets Sales Record

The numbers are out for April 2015 and they set a record!  The Barrie & District Association of Realtors says residential property sales were up more than 23% over April 2014.  While the City of Barrie itself saw an increase in sales by nearly 12% over last year, the sales in surrounding areas outside of Barrie saw a surge in sales by more than 40%.  Also on the increase was year-to-date sales over the first four months of 2015 - up more than 17% from the same period in 2014.  President Bruce Shipley says "with supply still not keeping pace with demand the market is now tighter than it's ever been, and that's pushing prices higher."   In fact, overall supply remains below levels seen over most of the past decade - and there was a record low number of homes for sale in April.  As expected, average prices are on the rise - with the year-to-date price for all homes so far in 2015 sitting at $358,187 - an increase of 6.9% over the same period in 2014.  So, while interest rates remain low, it's a great opportunity for both buyers and sellers as we continue through the busy Spring market!
