Jumpin' January!

Up, up and away!  The first month of 2015 was UP in the number of sales right across our board over January of last year by more than 12%.  That's a great start to the new year - even though the number of listings available on the market was down from last year.  Also up in the month of January were home prices.  The average price for all homes recorded on the Barrie & District Association of REALTORS Inc. in January was $337,718 - up more than 6% from January 2014.  Another increase in the month of January was the dollar value of all home sales - topping $73.6 million dollars.  That's up nearly 20 per cent from year ago levels - and is a record for the month of January.  And even though the number of listings remain at historically low levels, the number of new listings that came on the market year over year in January rose by more than 10% over last year.  So it looks like all signs are pointing towards an early Spring market this year - as buyers and sellers are getting busy even before the snow has melted.  And with interest rates taking a recent dip, that makes the prospect of home ownership even more possible for first time buyers.  And for anyone looking to upsize or downsize - it's a great time to consider the possibilities!
