See that hottie on your morning jog? Keep pace while you’re flirting—it might improve your odds. According to new research, faces in motion are hotter than stationary ones.

In the study, 20 subjects were asked to rate the attractiveness of various people while looking at either a two-second video clip or a static frame from the same clips. Overwhelmingly, the moving faces were rated as more attractive every time. On average, people rated 91 percent of the static shots as less flattering than the videos.
What’s moving got to do with it? While researchers aren’t completely certain, one possibility is that, evolutionarily, we’re more accustomed to seeing dynamic faces than static ones, despite the time we spend on Instagram. Since it’s easier for our brains to recognize a moving face, and since it requires less work, the result could mean a higher perceived attractiveness. (Tip: Skype her instead of flirting through the dating website.)
So, if you overdid it on Peeps this holiday weekend, here’s even more motivation to get moving—and chat her up while you’re doing it. Make conversation while you’re headed out the door to your car, or finishing up a run. Just don’t look like a schlub (or worse, a still frame).
