Canada's anti-spam legislation (CASL)

Canada’s new anti-spam legislation (“CASL”) is in force on July 1, 2014. This legislation is almost certainly impact the way CENTURY 21® System members do business. It is important that you take steps now to prepare.

The Canadian Real Estate Association (“CREA”) has been an active and vocal advocate on behalf of REALTORS® regarding CASL and has provided excellent information packages for their members. Please log in to the REALTORlink website and search “CASL” to find both a brief summary and a detailed overview specifically written for REALTOR® members. These documents contain guidelines as well as examples.

At corporate head office, we too are working on our website and OnlineOffice to ensure that these platforms are compliant with CASL. Please watch for updates of the steps we’re taking.

You can find links to CASL and the associated draft regulations and policy documents by visiting www.fightspam.gc.ca and www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/casl-lcap.htm.

If you have any questions on CASL or preparation for its eventual proclamation into force we would suggest that you contact CREA or your local real estate board.

Note: This bulletin is for your information only. It does not constitute legal advice and you are strongly encouraged to take steps to determine how CASL will apply and what you need to do to comply.
