The benefits of moving to Cornwall – BIG SAVINGS on taxes and more!

Benefits of moving to CornwallI would like to personally thank Pauline Marois, our biggest Ontario real estate promoter, for inviting unofficially Quebeckers to make the move on the other side of the border, specifically in Cornwall and the surrounding areas, Sophie Goudreau says, a busy real estate agent in Cornwall and the surrounding areas such as Alexandria, Lancaster and South Glengarry. She explains that some have mentioned that taxes will go up, while many anglophones claim to be worried about the crackdown on language laws of the Parti Québécois.

Sophie Goudreau says many Quebecers are anxious to leave the province of Quebec since the Parti Québécois was elected in the last election. Sophie said she’s been getting more inquiries than normal from prospective buyers in Quebec.

“Since the election, it seems as though many Quebec residents have had enough! They are ready to make the move,” she said. Many people fear the tax increases for higher bracket incomes workers that the PQ had talked about during its election campaign back in August. According to Sophie, many English speaking Quebeckers claim to be worried about the new language laws. The French language laws are a big issue and is turning anglophones OFF!

Goudreau also expressed concern over small business owners complaining about the proposed changes to Bill 101. They say this would likely hurt their business. The PQ government said it would adopt a newer version of Bill 101 that would be “stronger, more coherent and more ambitious,” according to newly-elected Premier Pauline Marois. The bill would require all businesses that employ 11 or more employees to use French in all staff communications. The current law applies to businesses with more than 50 workers.

Sophie believes this is just the beginning of such a real estate trend for the Ontario real estate market especially in the small towns close to the border of Quebec. Being a native from Quebec herself, and having lived in Ontario for over 20 years, she knows and appreciates the value of making such a move. Most of her family still lives in Québec, she is just a short drive away from them all but enjoys all the benefits on living in Ontario.
