Recently Money Sense Magazine came out with its new list of Canada’s Best Places to Live. Based on 11 different criteria, the average of the top 20 best places to live checked off as being favourable in only 4.4 of the 11 categories. Most of the top 20 had low unemployment, mass transit, strong arts/sports community, population growth and available health care. While the majority did not offer high incomes, affordable housing, low taxes, low crime or good weather. What we found odd is that if Windsor and Essex County were to use the same ranking categories, this place that we call home would have easily ranked favourably in at least half of these 11 criteria. Just for the record here are 6 things that Money Sense missed in evaluating our neck of the woods. We have “AFFORDABLE HOMES”…Average sale price here is $175,000 vs, $398,000 as a Canadian average. We have Low Taxes…the price difference with mill rates speak for themselves. We have Low Crime…Essex County has 5 of the top 10 safest communities in Ontario. We don’t need mass transit…we can drive there faster. We have some of the best weather in the Country…200 + days of short sleeve shirt weather. We have awesome Arts, Tourism and Sports Venues. If you are looking for more to do, you can take an international day trip to Michigan and see world class sports, theatre and shopping. In our opinion Money Sense Magazine make “No Cents” when comes to ranking the best places in the Country to live.
