Great Eats - Chingu Korean BBQ

Over the years I've dined at many Korean BBQ restaurants throughout the Greater Toronto Area, and I have to say that none has impressed me more than Chingu Korean BBQ located in Richmond Hill. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of trying Korean BBQ yet, I'll give you a quick run down of what it's all about. Gogigui (meat+roasting) refers to the Korean method of grilling beef, pork, chicken and other types of meat and fish. These dishes are normally prepared at your table with you cooking the meat yourself on a gas grill that is built right in.

The best thing about Chingu has to be their selection. Built right into their standard AYCE (All You Can Eat) Menu they have the best selection of soup I've ever seen at any Korean AYCE restaurant. The Pork Bone Soup (Gamjatang) is quite good, but I would definitely recommend the Tofu with Seafood (Sundubu). The side dishes served with our meal (Banchan) where tasty and there was a large variety to sample from. The meat was marinated nicely and they offered vegetables to grill and lettuce to wrap your freshly cooked meat in. This was a very nice touch considering at other AYCE Korean BBQ restaurants you'd have to pay extra just to get these sides.

Overall the experience was made that much more enjoyable by their excellent service staff. They where very attentive and helpful, always tended to the things we needed and made sure we had everything that we wanted. Not to mention that in our two hour visit they changed our grill about four times without being asked! They would arrive at our table new grill in hand, trade the new one for the old and than would transfer our cooking food onto the new grill for us. Now for anyone who has ever visited a Korean BBQ restaurant I think we can agree that one of the most annoying factors is having your food charred while trying to flag down the service staff to come and change out the grill.

The Verdict: A great AYCE restaurant for a good price. Considering all the options that they offer that other Korean BBQ buffets don't they'll give you an authentic taste of Korea with the service to match. All these factors and more make Chingu Korean BBQ a great place to try and try again. (I'll definitely be back).

Chingu is located in Richmond Hill in the corner of a plaza at 3536 W Beaver Creek Road #280. Want to know more? Connect with them on Facebook.
