Markham prides itself in the variety of classes and programs year-round, which have helped its residents of all ages develop strong friendships and discover new hobbies.

One such example is a children’s sewing class offered by the Markham Guild of Village Crafts near Markham Road and Highway 7, where students will be guided in making various projects. There are two classes offered, both on Mondays from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, with one being a 6-week course running from September 15 to October 27, and the other a 4-week course from November 3 to December 4; the cost is $84 and $56 respectively. This is a great way to keep your child involved in extracurricular activities and developing new skills through the school year.

A sewing class for teens and adults at a beginner level is also available. Students will be taught the basics of sewing, such as the parts of a sewing machine and various stitching patterns, and be guided in making a pair of boxes or pajama bottoms. Classes are 4 weeks long and offered on Mondays from September 8 to 29, October 6 to November 3 or November 10 to December 1. All classes run from 7pm to 9pm and are $56 per person. If you possess more advanced sewing skills, there is a class better suited for you, where you will be taught how to create a pillow cover and skirt. Classes are offered on 7pm to 9:30pm on Tuesdays, from September 16 to October 28 or November 4 to December 2, for $105 or $70 per person respectively.
