We have a traffic crisis in the city and we can’t do something that will make it worse. That small section of highway serves as a continuous link between the Don Valley Pkwy. and the Gardiner Expwy. That’s a critical piece of our transportation infrastructure, thousands of people and millions of dollars worth of goods to move through our city every day. Removing this vital link would dramatically increase traffic congestion, meaning more time stuck in gridlock, less time with family and friends and an unacceptably high cost to our economy. The hybrid option will keep traffic moving in our city. It will also open up the lands to the east of the Gardiner Expwy., which are primed and ready for development. This is a transformational development that would employ thousands of people and pump billions into our economy.
Why does this 1.7-km stretch of elevated expressway matter so much to the city and why is it important for council to keep it?
