A cheque presentation was held at Century 21 from The Bradford Children’s Charity Fund Annual Golf Tournament, to support a local child in need from the area of Bradford West Gwillimbury.

The Tournament on June 20th of this year supported a local child in Bradford West Gwillimbury named Emily Szabo. Due to having Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, Emily faces various challenges in her daily life. All of the proceeds from the Tournament were donated to assist Emily in acquiring therapies that she requires to help her maintain and gain daily living skills.

This was another successful year for the Golf Tournament at The Highlands Golf Club in Bradford. With the community’s help and generosity the event was able to raise $21,667.

The day’s major contributing sponsors included: Townwood Homes (dinner sponsorship), Bob Bell (lunch sponsorship), Metrus Development (driving range sponsor), Christina Homes and Melrose Investments (front and back 9th hole sponsorships).

At the Tournament Emily’s father was “taking it all in”. He expressed feeling overwhelmed with gratitude and described the day as having “angels everywhere”. He described his experience of being part of a day dedicated to his daughter or ‘Emily’s Day’, and witnessing all of the support from sponsors, participants, friends and family, as having left him “flabbergasted”. “Everyone that came made it feel like we were spending the day with family; they were all so welcoming” said Donna, Emily’s Grandmother.

The family plans to spend some of the money that was raised to send Emily to a camp called ‘Speak Freely’ in Barrie.  This facility provides therapeutic horseback riding classes suitable for Emily and her physical abilities. This therapy will be a fun way for Emily to loosen her joints and assist in her physical and emotional development for her continued progress.

After the Golf Tournament made news, there was more excitement to come. A local family, which wishes to remain anonymous, reached out. They had endured similar circumstances as the Szabo family, and knew in their hearts that this was the perfect opportunity to give back. They contacted Founder/Coordinator Luis Moniz (Realtor at Century 21) to donate their 2005 Dodge Caravan Wheelchair van. The Szabo family could hardly believe it, they responded to the act of kindness with extreme gratitude. The gesture was “beyond what they could have ever imagined” said Emily’s mother.

Luis Moniz who founded the event in 2011 works closely and diligently with Coordinators Cristina Silva and Carlos Silva and volunteers to organize and execute the event year after year. “The main objective is to help children and give back to our community”. He would like to thank all participants and recognize all sponsors “for every contribution big to small-it’s amazing to see the community pull together and do something for their neighbour”
