Brampton Bovaird House

Built with double brick sourced from locally quarried red clay, the Historic Bovaird House in Brampton has two stories, a cellar, and second floor labourer’s quarters.

The Historic Bovaird House is a beautiful model of a mid-19th century farmhouse in Ontario, built using the traditional “Georgian” style. It contains five fireplaces, original plank flooring and windows made with hand blown glass panes imported from England at the time of construction.

Volunteers at the Bovaird House turned back the clock to restore this property to its original appearance with a resulting farmhouse steeped in history and furnished with authentic artifacts using a style of craftsmanship constructed around the time period. Two small rooms on the main floor (which were once bedrooms) were partly salvaged when modern conveniences like indoor plumbing and electricity were applied.

The original carriage house near the side entrance have evolved into the Carriage Gift Shop, featuring many unique, handcrafted and vintage items for sale. Located on the main floor of the building is a substantial farm kitchen with a Dutch oven and tin pantry, a carriage room, the parlour and dining room with matching fireplaces and distinctive chimney cupboards.

On the second floor there are four bedrooms, and a display area featuring maps and surveys of historic Brampton as well as antique dolls and a collection of children’s toys. On special occasions the large farm kitchen, parlour and dining room are transformed into Mossie's Tea Room, named after the homes last owner.

The Bovaird House hosts a number of exclusive events so stay tuned! The next event takes place on March 6th – Desserts by Lamplight, beginning at 7pm. Enjoy a selection of mouth-watering desserts for only $17.50 per person. Click here for more details.
