Clayton Park

Clayton Park was developed beginning in 1962 as a suburb of Halifax located along Rockingham just bordering the northern part of Fairview. This area is an easy commute to downtown with easy access to the 102 and Bedford highway. The area was developed as an upper middle class community and its prime developer was the Shaw Company. One of the architectural requirements of the houses and apartments being built in the area was that a high percentage of brick had to be used on the exterior.

One of the unique features of Clayton Park is the way in which the houses and lots were carved out of a very rocky and hilly area of the city. The architecture and style of houses built in this area range from traditional Maritime architecture, Cape Cod styles and some very unique contemporary homes. The area is a mature area of the city with lots of trees and large lots affording residents the opportunity for sprawling lawns and gardens. The area has a large mix of single family, duplexes, condos and apartments.

Clayton Park residents are just minutes away from the popular shopping destination, Bayer’s Lake Park; home of warehouse style retailers such as Costco, Future Shop, Winners, Wal-Mart and more.

Canada Games Centre

At the west end of Clayton Park (and some might argue it is actually part of Clayton Park West) is the new Canada Games Centre which was built to host the 2011 Canada Games. The facility provides fitness and aquatic programs.

The Clayton Park area is home to restaurants and neighbourhood pubs, large grocery chains, coffe shops, small shopping malls, banks and other various businesses. The area also boasts parks, walking trails and playgrounds in addition to a number of Elementary and Junior High Schools.
