The completion of the Dunbrack Street/North West Arm Drive connectors with the Highway 102 freeway during the 1980s, followed by an extension of Lacewood Drive to Highway 102 and adjacent Bayer's Lake Industrial Park during the 1990s saw the Shaw company create an extension to Clayton Park named Clayton Park West.

Clayton Park has a high population density compared to other parts of metro Halifax and is one of the most ethnically diverse areas in Nova Scotia with people from over two dozen cultures. Halifax West High School, located in this area, is said to be one of the most culturally divers high schools east of Montreal with over 50 nationalities represented at the school.  Clayton Park is also popular among new comers to the Halifax area because of the large mixture of multi and single family residences, condominiums, townhouses, and apartment complexes.

There is plenty of shopping, restaurants, green space and parks in the area and residents are just a short drive from downtown Halifax or over the bridge to Dartmouth.
