Ted Wiggins

Personal Background

Ted was born in Toronto Ontario and at the age of 5 years old, his Family moved to Scarborough, where he went to Public School, High School and went on to College. After College, Ted began his working career with SKF Canada.  He started with SKF in the Manufacturing Quality Control Division and was promoted to the Engineering Division where he remained until accepting a Distributor Sales Position with another Bearing Company. After 3 years with this company, he accepted a National Sales Manager/General Manager position with an offshore competitor where he remained until his move to Cottage Country in 1989'.

After many years of travelling and being away from home, sometimes weeks on end, I was tired of being a weekend Father & Husband and decided that it was time to concentrate on my Family Life. We decided to make a move to Buckhorn Ontario where we had vacationed for many years. My intention at the time, was to purchase a Cottage Resort and I had a Brother (Fred) in the Real Estate Business in Peterborough (also with Century 21) so, I contacted my brother and began the search! Unfortunately, I soon learned that you had to be 'very wealthy' to purchase such a business and 'not being very wealthy', I decided to look at other opportunities that might be available in the area.

We soon found a vacant lot in 'Downtown Buckhorn' and as we all know....location..location..location! Well, my Brother & Wife thought I was crazy, but, I could see the potential that this property had and we proceeded to purchase it (at a rediculous price I might ad). I had assured my Wife, that this would only be a 5 year project and we began plans to build a 'General Store'. Well, after a very lengthy process of obtaining minor variances, permits, permits, and more permits, we finally built 'Buckhorn General Store' and were open for business in July of 1991'. The Store quickly became 'very successful', but, that winter, getting a little restless with working in the General Store, I decided that I would do something a little different and being an avid hunter & fisherman, I decided to build and open 'Buckhorn Bait & Tackle' beside the main store. Needless to say......my Wife thought I was still crazy! Well, we opened that spring for the opening of Pickerel Season and we had another 'very busy' business on our hands.

Well, by 1993' I decided that Retail was not for me ......and thought I would once again try something a little different.......why not Real Estate?? You got it!..... my Wife thought I was getting crazier still!!

Well, I took my courses during that winter.......and here I am!

We decided to end that '5 year project' of the Store.....and we Sold it in 2005' (15 years later). But, we had a Very Good Agent!! And.......you got it! My Wife still thinks I'm Crazy!! But, I would not change a thing.....I love what I do, the people I work with and the great people I have met in this business. I will continue doing it, as long as I am able........and as long as my Wife, doesn't have me committed!!
