MoneySense ratings included 190 Canadian cities and towns with a population over 10,000. A variety of categories are considered to determine which urban areas offer the best places to live, work and play. Categories include: weather, affordable housing, household and discretionary income, new cars on the road, job prospects, population growth, health care access, crime rate and ability to walk or bike to work.
Regina's rating of the 5th best place to live in Canada in 2012 jumped 18 points from last years rating of #23. Compared to 2011, a number of western cities ranked higher this year because of the strong economic growth and low unemployment. A city has to score well in all categories to come out on top.
Three additional lists were added this year. Out of 190 Regina ranked:
- Best place to retire - #30
- Best place to raise a family - #7
- Best place to find a job - #6
