Watch Out For Door-To-Door Water Filter Sales

Halton Region is alerting the public that door-to-door sales of residential water filters are not mandated by the Region.

“Halton Region has been made aware that residents are being approached by sales people who claim that the Government of Ontario has mandated that all residents are required to have a specific filtration device installed on their water supply,” stated a press release. “It has been reported that sales people are also requesting access into residents’ homes to view their water systems.”

There is currently no mandate from the provincial government or Region requiring residents to install additional filtration equipment on their water systems.

“Residents are not required to install additional filtration systems in their homes,” Jim Harnum, Halton Region’s Public Works commissioner, stated in the release. “Our highly qualified and licenced staff perform regular testing to make sure we consistently meet or exceed provincial water quality standards.”

Residents should be aware that any Regional employee required to visit a residence always carries Regional photo identification — staff do not visit homes for the purpose of promoting or selling any water-related products.
