Winter Driving: Part 2

Looks like cold weather and dare we say it, SNOW, is on it's way over the next few days! Some of us are pretty excited about the winter weather, even if it's just minor flurries! We've been spoiled with the smooth road conditions, so let's be sure to take extra caution when the snow stays put.

You've prepped your car for winter driving, now what? If you haven't, here's a link to our previous post to help you out.

You’ve had a winter maintenance check-up, packed the ice-scraper, washer fluid and your emergency kit and have sufficient petrol to get you to your destination. Here's a few additional tips:

  • The MTO urges you to plan your trip ahead of stepping in your vehicle; check the weather and the road conditions on your route.
  • Once you're driving it’s essential to slow down, stay alert and in control. When roads are snow covered or slippery, drivers need to adjust speed as both reaction and stopping time drastically increase.
  • Leave plenty of space between other vehicles and snow plows - share the road.
  • And of course, obey any road closures you encounter.

Most importantly, don’t drive if you don’t feel safe doing so.

Stay safe!
