House prices rise in city

The price of a new home in the Saskatoon region rose nearly

four per cent between summer 2009 and summer 2010, new statistics show.

According to the New Housing Price Index, published Wednesday by Statistics Canada, the price of a new home rose 3.8 per cent between August 2009 and the same month this year. The increase is among the highest in Canada.

Between July and August of this year, however, there was no change to the price of a new home in the Saskatoon region.

Regina, meanwhile, noted the nation's highest year-over-year price increase, growing 6.1 per cent between August 2009 and August 2010. Regina also noticed a 0.4 per cent increase in the price of new homes between July and August of this year.

Nationally, the price of a new home in Canada rose by an average of 2.9 per cent year over year and

0.1 per cent month to month.
