Town of Ajax

History

The town is named for the HMS Ajax a Royal Navy cruiser that served in World War II.  Ajax was incorporated as a Town in 1955, but long before that, several small settlements and farms were found in the area. The Ajax Historical Board (now called Heritage Ajax) has published a history book, A Town Called Ajax, which is available at the Town Hall and all library branches. The Ajax Public Library has developed a local history web page, www. Pada.ca, that provides access to local history and historical documents aboutAjax andPickering.

The Town’s population is quite diverse from an age and gender perspective. While the youth and seniors age groups are quite strong, people between the ages of 25-54 make up the majority of the Town’s residents.
