I love the city we live in! Going out to lunch and dinners are so important, it feels like a mini holiday for me and my family. When you go to the right place with amazing people and food, you are on a holiday from cooking!
The summerlicious and Winterlicious is such an amazing method to try so many fine restaurants at an affordable set price and an amazing chance to go on a date with your loved ones!
I would like to introduce myself, my name is Tom Tsambourlianos, born and raised in Toronto, In my early years, my family lived in the community known as Leslieville, and there were no streets unknown to my brother and I, as we trekked everyday on our bicycles through all the backstreets. My older brother and I attended Bruce Public School and performed duties after school at our fathers fast paced restaurant known as "Tony's Diner", yes the one with the personal Juke boxes at every table.
After several years, my Father wanted to try something different, he really wanted to make dough, so in his search of making bread, he sold the restaurant a had then got involved in the Bakery business, so my parents bought and sold buildings then we moved to St.Clair Avenue West by Christie, known as Wychwood Park. That's when there was also a new addition to my Greek family, I had a younger brother, his name is Taso! It was great, a new brother, new neighbourhood, new friends, new laneways and new streets to discover with our bikes. My older brother had a nice banana seat bike, my younger brother had a qute tricyle, and I had a cool BMX, yeah the one with the shocks! Life was a great!
We attended McMurrich Public School, on Winona Drive south of St.Clair Avenue where I sold cakes at recess for cash, then my brothers and I attended Winona Drive Junior High for grade 7 and 8. Our local High School was Oakwood Collegiate Institute, although we relocated to Scarborough for a short period where I attended Winston Churchill Collegiate for 1 semester, then decided to try Wexford Collegiate on Pharmacy It was good, but I wanted more, so I went back to Toronto and attended Central Commerce Collegiate, located by trendy College Street.
By the time I had turned 16 my father had retired due to illness, so off to work I had to go! I worked in several industries and in search of making enough money to support my parents, I landed a business with my brother in Dufferin Mall. The First Shefield & Son’s Franchise in Ontario. It was a great experience signing a lease at such a young age! The mall was open 7 days a week and they were long hours for a young man. So my brother and I after 3 years decided to move on and we sold the business, he went into the juice distribution business and I found employment at a Chevrolet Corvette Dealership on St.Clair Avenue West. While my brother was in the orange juice business, over a dinner he said the company he was with couldn't service all there new found accounts and they were considering a broker to take over these unserviced accounts. At that point, a little bell sounded and a light bulb over my head appeared, so I offered to buy a couple of delivery cube van trucks to take on all the available surplus business, he agreed and off to my new business I went. I aggressively went store to store offering beverages at a lower price than the big cola companies, and guess what, before I knew it I had more accounts than I could handle. Wow, I was rocking, l had to hire drivers to help distribute the deliveries! So off I went and had to lease a premises to simplify the logistics, hired several employees and service over 200 retail stores! I was merely 21 and out of control, I was living it up and I had started only with a few bucks. What a roller coaster I got myself into, I had so much product out on the street and was starting to severely lack the capital I had required to maintain distribution levels and satisfy accounts. If only I had advice! I had no business plan, and not being able to raise capital and to financially continue, then it all came to a halt. Coca Cola launched a promo campaign and blew out its product's at half price to eliminate many brokers like me, it made the front page of the Toronto Star in 1992, Cola-Wars! I tried to hang on, but I simply could not sell for less than product cost, so I had to close my company.
In search of my next employer, I was offered a job at Peoples Credit Jewelers, as a Salesperson. Within 8 months I had won the top sales awards in the store and by the time I was 22, I was the youngest store Manager in the company's history. That only lasted a year, until I repayed my debts. I couldn't take being locked in a store for so many hours, I had to hit the streets, I had to socialize. I went to see my Godfather, my mentor. He was a success, I had stayed with him every summer for at least 2 weeks in the Brimley and Lawrence community. I looked forward to his advice, after all he founded Maple Leaf Taxi with a friend of his back in 1970. He introduced me to a friend of his in the car business, and from there I never looked back, buying and selling cars, yup I found myself working in the Automotive business for years.
I have bought and sold over 1800 cars in my professional career as a Dealer, Licensed by The Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Councel (OMVIC), I am Certified in Automotive Law and Ethics, and a good standing member with the Used car Dealers Association (UCDA). I worked hard for years, in that decade I wanted more, so I ran a bar, then, I had also opened a restaurant on Broadview Avenue. Flipping cars was easier than flipping burgers so I got out of them and kept on going with my car business.
Cars were great, but what was better was financing all those automobiles and the extras that went with them. Once I had the flow, I had set up finance accounts with National Bank, Royal Bank, TD Bank, that was extremely rare for a dealer that was not a franchise. I was a born natural. I had taken a small business run by my then brother in law from $300k the first year in sales to over $4 Million in less than 3 years. I was moving over 30 cars a month, but it was hard work. The market had taken a slow down and with a family I had to look at other sectors, I asked myself, what else could I finance? Houses, I could finance business loans, real estate, why not, the market was growing every year, so I knew I could do it with Real Estate so I decided to go back to school.
After researching and planning my future as a student again, I registered with The University of British Columbia's Financial Services Program, which luckily was administered through a local college, that was my next target. So after 3 years in school and a father of 2 children, Bullseye!! I successfully completed my educational requirements and was Licensed by The Financial Services Commission Of Ontario as a Mortgage Broker. I currently own and operate Wefund.ca which has led me to Real Estate Sales so I can further assist my mortgage clients, and all my past clients.
So since I have geographicaly lived in the four corners of the GTA, any time my client called me for a mortgage and said a street name, BAM, I knew the area! I knew the price point's, I knew the good, I knew the bad, and the gorgeous.
I am now a father of two children and I love working in the real estate business, I have great passion for educating my clients, representing them and foremost placing them in what we know as "Home sweet Home". After all we love to spend family time together, so for those days I have built a Real Estate Sales Team to assist my clients around the clock regardless of which day of the week it is. After all, It is the largest Purchase you will ever make. Why call people who call themselves great, when you can call a professional, so let me guide you through this complicated transaction. I will provide you with my expertise and business knowledge. I can teach you what to look out for when we are negotiating your contracts, and how to overcome challenges. My experiences through the last 20 years of business is more than many see in a lifetime.
