The City of Barrie and surrounding area continues to be one of Canada's fastest growing regions. Surrounded by a beautiful natural setting, the area offers a wide variety of outdoor and recreational activities. Barrie’s natural setting on Kempenfelt Bay includes numerous parks and attractive waterfront amenities. An extensive trail overlooking the Bay is popular with bikers, rollerbladers, and walkers. The area surrounding the city offers a variety of tourism and recreational activities. Boating, golfing, mountain biking, skiing, and sports are all enjoyed on a year round basis.

The City’s location on Highway 400 provides convenient access to the highly populated regions of Ontario and the neighbouring US making this a strong asset for businesses.
GO Train service to and from Barrie and Toronto commenced December 17, 2007. Regular scheduled departures and arrivals from the new Barrie South GO Station occur during peak commuter hours.
Georgian College, a leading community college in Ontario, has an extensive campus located in Barrie. The college offers a wide variety of automotive, technical, engineering, business and arts programs. Their innovative university partnership program offers students the opportunity to obtain degrees in several fields of study.
The Royal Victoria Hospital, constructed in 1997, is an impressive $120 million health care facility. Funding and approvals are now in place for the expansion of the hospital with the development of the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre. This new centre will offer regional residents comprehensive cancer care, closer to home.
Cultural life flourishes in the City of Barrie. The city’s many attractions include The Gryphon Theatre for Arts and Entertainment, The Mady Centre for the Performing Arts, Talk is Free Theatre, Theatre by the Bay, the international concert and performance venue at the Barrie Molson Centre, and the prestigious MacLaren Art Centre.
Located on the beautiful shores of Kempenfelt Bay, colourful and vibrant Downtown Barrie attracts visitors from all over, throughout the year. Over 600 shops, one-of-a-kind boutiques, restaurants, and businesses make up this dynamic district. A new public library is located in the downtown offering state of the art library services on a seven day a week basis.
