Are you planning a move or maybe just Spring Cleaning? Not sure what to do with all your old and unloved things. Here are a few services that may be able to help you.
University College Book Sale www.uc.utoronto.ca 416-978-0372 They hold an annual fall book sale and a volunteer may even pick up your books. The proceeds go to that fine institute of higher learning and your books have a new home rather than being sent to a landfill.
Schools, daycares or public libraries are also usually willing to take gently used books.
Clothes and Other household items:
Clothesline www.diabetes.ca 800-505-2352 This simple and efficient service comes to your home and collects your items, then sells them through Value Village. Proceeds go to The Canadian Diabetes Association to fund research.
Tickets to shows and games:
Kids Upfront www.kidsupfront.com 416-530-2352Although tickets are not considered our old and unloved items, we sometimes find that we end up with tickets to a ballgame or a show that we can not attend. Kids upfront will donate your tickets to a child-serving charity and there are tons of kids who would love to attend.
www.freecycle.org It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. This is a great concept. I believe you have to give something before you can get something. One of my clients used this service to give away some odds and ends (furniture too). He said it was great because it is listed locally people come to your door to pick it up.
