Saskatchewan's population sets new records

As of October 1, 2013 there were 1,114,170 people calling the province home.

This is an increase of 5,867 in the previous three months and close to 19,800 over the past year.

If you're wondering where the people are coming from, the vast majority of the population gain was due to new international migration of 3,510. There was also a natural increase of 1,720 (births minus deaths) and net interprovincial migration of 637.

It is expected that 2014 should see continued population and economic growth and by 2020 the population should reach 1.2 million.

With the population growth there is also an increase in construction activity that is predicted to continue to rise.

When one looks at the growth in retail sales and an unemployment rate that is the lowest in Canada, it is plain to see that Saskatchewan is the place to be (which is no surprise to the people who have lived here for awhile)!
