Telemarketing is the use of telephony technology (telephone, cell phone, fax, etc) to make unsolicited telephone calls or send unsolicited messages to consumers for the purpose of solicitation. SOLICITATION is selling or promoting a product or service, or soliciting money.
In Canada, 63 per cent of respondents in a 2007 national survey said they would register with a do-not-call registry.
In the United Kingdom there are more that 10 million telephone numbers registered. In Australia more than one million phone numbers in 4 weeks. The Telecom Regulatory Authority in India is establishing a national do-not-call list.
NOTE: THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS ARE IMPORTANT TO REAL ESTATE.
Calls to consumers who have given consent to being called
Calls to a consumer who has an existing business relationship with the organization
Calls to business telephone numbers
